The launch of the medicinal garden at the Fernhurst Surgery took place this evening at 6.00pm at the Fernhurst GP Surgery.
The Medicinal Garden demonstrates what can be achieved when local people work together to create something of lasting benefit for future generations. 'The medicinal garden has been designed and planted with the support of local experts who generously contributed their knowledge and time. Garden designer and plantswoman Andrea Webb of Aprimula Design planned the garden and sourced many of the plants from local donors. Local Nutritionist and Wellbeing Coach Claudia Vargas advised on the medicinal properties and traditional uses of herbs, while Theresa Kennedy, Chair of Fernhurst Horticultural Society and former local midwife, acted as liaison between the project team and local NHS health centres.
Rewilding Area on the Corner of The Leys
The Flower Bed on the Corner of The Leys is an initiative of the Fernhurst Horticultural Society and is part of the The Blue Campaign encouraging villages to re-wild their green spaces. It takes time to establish an area of this kind and members of the Society have worked hard to ensure a wide range of natural plants for the future. The pictures here show how it looked earlier this week with carefully mown paths. Yesterday a company mowing the area at the side of the Leys has come in and taken it upon themselves to MOW DOWN the whole of this area – it will take at least 12 months to reestablish itself.
Needless to say the Members and local community are devastated over what has happened and will do their best to remedy the situation as quickly as possible.
